The Masked Globall

As we can’t get out much and

need to dance,

love to dance,

love to love.

The whole wide world needs it – the entire globe.

People used to do masked balls where they covered their eyes and sometimes their entire faces, this year’s event is where we cover our mouths mainly, you can take it further if you wish.

https://fashion.allwomenstalk.com/things-you-should-know-about-the-history-of-masquerade-masks/

I was going to suggest this for New Year’s Day but things got far too serious so it didn’t feel right.

But now we are all desperate for Love I’m thinking Valentine’s Day may be Ace!

You can design your own masks – these can be attached on top of a proper one if you’re going further than home.

You or your resourceful young people can design a set, a backdrop, books are good for a library setting in a stately home, we need to escape to somewhere different, to get out, even it is just in our minds.  We can see each other’s sets too.

There can be lots of rooms for the many different types of people we are.  Some can be for little people only and some for adults only, some access all areas.  I am looking forward to seeing what everyone creates.

This Masked Globall is in a huge location so there can be symphonies on one side of it and a disco in another district, pop in a popular location, jazz in the chill-out zone, old music, new music, clap your hands if you’re happy if that’s what you want to do.  Every era is included every style is welcome. From Eurovision to Electronic too.  It is up to you all.

Please get this party started!

The Zoom around the Country Tour*

*Visits absolutely everywhere you are!

I posted this on a famous German Comedian’s twitter feed

as a response :

and he thought:

and then this:

I was first in the door as it were!

It was brilliant!!

Light bulbs flashing !!!

and that got my mind racing, zooming in fact:

so

the zoom ==>>

around ⊕ the ⊗

country Δ tour

to cheer everyone up!

What I’m hoping is for comedians to host a zoom event and record it.  I’d like it to feel like a night out where the audience laughing can be heard but not seen (as they should be like children should be seen but not heard sort of thing) so they enjoy it without the worry of their backdrop being rated on comparethebackdrop.com

This can be done I asked zoom :

Can you host a meeting so you can hear attendees but not see even a blank screen of them? So you as host are the video with their reactions audible in the background?

Yes, you can turn off all cameras for everyone in the meeting by unchecking allow participants to start video, or you can host a webinar where all the attendees will be able to only see and hear you!

Also this means that if you record it then it will be good for television too – which is the idea.  People need new topical comedy to keep them going.  Those is the business need work.  If this does generate funds can you be generous on my Water to Deserts, to Green the Dry gofundme, link on the post and page here so I can cure the planet, an injection of water is required for this, and I need an injection of cash to develop this idea.  I will post free to copy ideas for the poor but need to ensure exploiters cannot exploit first through patent control.   As you can see the second post on this site proposes an idea that could get creatives paid for their work online – my original thinking for Web t.v. which I released in 1997 it was copied but not entirely as I meant it to be – we would be ad-free now with it.  You or We could do ultra mini not always funny zoom events with very few people to come to terms with the technology so when you present your funny stuff you don’t have stress of this at the back of your mind only a confident joy to behold for all to see.

I’m looking forward to some Smileyvision from you

We could all do with it now

So to quote Henning you had better “Crack On!”

because that’s what Hens Do!

To bring water to the desert, to green the dry…

I saw a simple solution at sea to solve:

Global warming

Sea level rising

CO2 increasing

All in one basic, natural, uncomplicated way.

O2 will be created and flora and fauna will flourish

More land made and more land made safe

It will be wet where it is hot it will rain more which will be cool

The practicality, how it will be done:

I have been in rain out at sea on a boat and thought what’s the point of it raining here when there is already so much water and yet it does not rain at all in places that are thirsty for it.

That got me thinking.  How could I gather this rain I see on all weather forecasts raining on the sea everywhere and get it to the places where it is needed?

A boat could gather it in and bring it to the shores.  I worked out a design for this boat to make sure it kept sea water out.  I worked out several new propulsion methods which would make it a fuel free construction keeping the water clean and keep it slowly and safely moving to its destination points.  I have thought through the guidance system so they could travel all over the oceans like massive water boat men traverse a pond, these little creatures effectively row themselves along.  I have the water storage and transfer details in my mind.

The plan on the ground will be different sorts of canals, some pipelines covered, but with the water accessible for use – for gardening, for crops, for people as what they produce is a fertiliser for the soil – to make sure in hot places as it evaporates it cools on a cooling top pipe, condensing again and falling as rain back in the flow.  I’ve planned mats to seed the ground to get the growth going.  I’ve seen shrinking lakes grow as the water starts to flow back in them.

This water is natural, it does not disturb equilibrium like desalination does causing uneven brackishness where the semi-saline mix is not what the creatures that rely on a certain salinity prefer.  As the sea is overwatered currently it will be preferable for it to restore its normal mix so the creatures and plant life within will feel their home restored.

A lower sea level will slow the speed of currents slightly – speed is an energy so less kinetic energy would translate into lower heat energy – a lower water level freezes over faster, this would help Arctic animals.

More trees and all other plants on land will absorb more CO2 and breathe out more Owhich will cure the atmosphere of its depletion.

This is turn will deacidify the oceans and the waves, crashing on shore or out in the deep blue are designed like a bubble creator in a fish tank – to add Oxygen into the water.  As there is too much Carbon Dioxide in the air this is transferring to the sea this way – causing it to acidify – a major acidification in the past triggered an unstoppable major extinction event, so this is essential for most life on earth, some will survive this, but it will be hardest for humans to, so we need less CO2 in the oceans and in the air and more O2 to survive.

Everyone on Earth is a Winner with this idea!

I need your backing and support and expertise,

Whatever you’ve got to offer so we can work together

to make this dream come true, it can be done.

Yes, the nightmare can be turned around like a large ship going the wrong way in the harbour, slowly but surely, every steer in the correct orientation is a win and we reach our dream destination.

This is a simple risk free way to do it. $1/€1/¥1/£1

or anything would be great for it so I can do this a.s.a.p. this year:

The dream:

To bring water to the desert, to green the dry,

To stop the fires, to cool the air,

To lower the sea levels, to combat erosion,

To grow trees to absorb carbon, to grow food,

To allow wild animals space to simply exist,

To continue on to live.

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand…

Years ago I wrote to Madonna via Sting’s address in a place called Wilsford-cum-Lake near Stonehenge saying I had an idea that could bring water to the deserts – and idea like Jesus’s “Send forth your Spirit Oh Lord and renew the face of the Earth” type of thing – as this really would do that.  In the past the paws of the Sphinx were in water, Plato’s City of Atlantis is now situated in desert in Mauritania, and Eden is in what was called Sumer, hence the word Summer for our peak harvest season, now dead to most life.  In the now dry Australian outback are carvings of now long extinct species which could only have thrived in lush vegetation.  The sea levels were also lower then, so there was more land to go around and easier passage over waters.  There are fires the world over due to the great dryness, and conflicts are caused basically due to the lack of water, and freedoms are in reality curtailed due to being locked in a system that controls access to the basics, go against this and you do die, lack of water is a trap, flow of it is freedom.

The Eye of Africa:

That was once the City of Atlantis:

The Sahara was wet then – even the Sphinx shows water damage in it’s paws, it was once Leo the Lion built around 10500BC – The First Time.

I have a fairly simple idea, currently untapped, that will provide a solution.  I will need to patent this to protect people from overlords who without protection of the idea would exploit and not allow others to access it freely.  I will suggest all sorts of ideas and applications for poorer folk to freely copy, and not restrict non exploitative organisations from also copying it without restraints, that will remain my prerogative just because I understand the politics of this, to ensure it happens.  I have always been green, in the 1980s when I was young I even sent a little mini-programme idea called “How Green You Are” to a children’s programme Going Live! Presented by Phillip Schofield and Sarah Greene.  I kept trying.  As a result of my persistent efforts I should have died on 911 and only recently have recovered enough from my PTSD to be able to act again, and thanks to Greta Thunberg feel this time I will be heard so I will be given a chance to solve these issues.

I did prior to 2001 have a personal political website orionparty.org where I suggested Rainbow Recycling – which is how it is now done.  I also suggested Power to the People – it is possible to be free of energy bills, all sorts of generation sources, wind, solar, electricity generating bicycles, tide flow mills which is an endless source which would slightly slow ocean flow causing cooling, the excess energy would go directly into freer transport – hence the oil oligarchs wanting me dead (I am not the 1st look at the history, at least 100 years)

I have tried to revive my idea generation via my blog site unin.us United In Us with blog posts “The Worthing of Wildlife” and “Free Food and Stuff Boxes” and whilst working at Amazon, I was being made permanent, my colleagues said ideas were good, I e-mailed Jeff Bezos directly, the Amazon was on fire at the time, where his company name comes from and the original logo contained the river and the A was coloured as wild animals, I got end of contract.  This is detailed on my serious adult blog site unin.info at Amazon e and x Amazon.

I mentioned that after contacting Madonna she wrote the song “Hey You” which became the Live Earth theme tune – because I am not ego driven I thought that this was a motivation for the American market to get them self-interested in the environment, there were personal attributes I did not recognise until a lot later.  Anyway I was not after another song about me, I just wanted to Save the World.

I haven’t been paid for any royalites my inspiration gained, this isn’t a gripe about that, I just want a chance to be able to do something, we can’t take any of our money when we die, even if we’re the richest person in the world, we all have a net worth of 0 at the end of our days, and all the animals that die because of us never had any but they did have enough before human greed stepped into their territories.

What I’m after is enough to support and pay for a simple set of ideas, that will be commercial, I have reached out to others, about one idea that will save on the use of wood and plastic, and we need to patent these together, the patent for 1 item with this team is £2000.  I will keep you informed of these as intellectual property information is released and these products go live, this will sustain this project.  I am working on temporary contracts to find the funds but gaps meant that I had got 50% there, and evil has a way of putting spanners in the works, so this is delaying everything.  All the money you contribute here will be for Saving the Global Environment.  If a large sum is raised I will use this as time and dedicate this full time as my job and you will become my employers and I will be answerable to you.  When I make money from the smaller items I will first invest it into patents for this cause and announcements so others can start to put this simple solution into practice, hence this request to speed things up, as working at it laboriously is too slow, my paid for job work will be my personal funds and as before will likely add to the pot for the good.  So you know.  I would like you to tell me, please add this detail to your reason for investing comments, what to invest your money in once I have pulled through and am generating funds as a result of this, something sustainable or close to your heart, and I will do that, and say what I have spent it on, in your name to give you credit where credit is due, when I do, as you wish.

By the way Businesses make yourselves carbon neutral or negative by investing in this idea, that is a positive contribution to the future, your future, your future workforce too!

Childhood preparation, premonition, participation and training for this:

Winter Term: I Started at aged 3 ½ one year too young. :

Me playing with sand and water in Kindergarten 1 at Brigidine Convent, Windsor.  (I found this photo at a school reunion event recently and really scrutinised other photos of me and discerned it was me)  You can see that I was a year smaller than the other children.

Summer Term 1973 aged from 4+2months to 4+4 months:

I am working with Maxim at Stroodles straws on new stirrer designs since October 2019, I have IP Intellectual Property protected these.  https://stroodles.co.uk/ We need more liquids and liquidity for these, and pasta manufacturers, one for each area of the globe grouped together regarding food regulations, supporting this venture in the pipeline will round up to supporting solutions for the future to make our dry planet green again.

https://euipo.europa.eu/eSearch/#details/designs/008192470-0001

https://euipo.europa.eu/eSearch/#details/designs/008192470-0002

https://euipo.europa.eu/eSearch/#details/designs/008192470-0003

Sadly, even though I empathised with Maxim throughout the pandemic in that he wasn’t able to sell his straws as venues had been locked down, he dropped me and also the lawyer who he chose and I co-operated with – his image uploads on the IP application are not of my standard, he asked me to drop his name off associating with them when saying he’s been with Maxim first.  I’d saved for the protection by working 12 hour day and night shifts making medicines in the pandemic.  He probably got a lot of government grants I paid for in taxes.  He has decided instead to sell other people’s products that they have developed : edible tableware at really high prices, it would be cheaper and better for the environment to reuse stuff made from rocks / metal / recycled plastic.  Anyway it shows that this German, his homeland is been made hell by surface coal mining, is committed to making money without effort rather than working to save the planet.  He certainly – like the petrol heads and oil magnates, does not want to work with a woman, he simply wishes to exploit them to gain for himself.

A Property Owning Democracy

I want people to be able to Take Back Control of their homes, homes which for many have now become income generator houses for their Land Ladies and Land Lords lording it over them, treating their tenants and their neighbours as staff not people, without respect.  I have a personal example which is related at the end of this piece.

Council homes are being renewed in my home town of Swindon at £30,000 – 30 grand each.  Council property should be seen as any other benefit, not for life, and so, like benefits for being out of a job, be constantly scrutinised in the reasons why this benefit is needed, budgeting, cooking skills, looking for better work to become more really independent and a compulsory savings scheme to move people on to owning their own home and to allow those in need without access to the building they no longer need to others more dearly do.

What would be better would be to loan everybody who needed it – within reason – up to £30,000 for a deposit for a home of their own.  A loan like the Student Loans, benefits are also loans, loans off other people as they are paid out by a state that is in debt, all benefits received fit into that category as a result, both benefits in money and benefits in kind, there is no other way round that fact.

This will free people from this Modern form of Slavery in Our Day, as slavery is when someone else does work and you gain the money from it, as when someone rents, the work they do to pay for the rent is their slave labour to you.  And not only do you gain from this you also gain from the property prices rising which further entraps them in your lair of rent rises in perpetuum.  People need to be free of this tyranny, this magnolia Stalinist dictatorship.

I would give people the right to buy the property they are currently living in and tax to complete lack of profitability all second, third, holiday, investment and all other non occupied by the owner estates, as if they are not living in it it is surplus to their requirements, you only actually Need One Home Each.  You can visit others, share by living in a hotel which is a business which provides work in that local area.  Owners provide stability, community and mental wellbeing in an area which also physically improves with the hope that any input will be looked on with joy in the future.

Some taxes like anti smoking tobacco taxes and alcohol taxation are designed to promote improved behaviours, here in this case this is dearly needed.

Business taxes V Property taxes:  Amazon can’t get them to pay so why not delete them all to be fair and only tax the land, it’s not going to be able to get away with it is it?   You can’t hide land, you can’t transfer its assets abroad! Unviable small business due to extortionate taxation, working but not gaining, whereas property ‘investors’ gain loads from very little work.  working taxes v landed gentry income, patents v copyright  How can any of this be fair?  In terms of fair trade or any other terms too?

The within reason bit is to loan anything up to 5% of the property worth, and to state to the banks that they must loan the rest, particularly to the banks we, the taxpayer loaned out so much money to at our cost, now with potholes in roads and parks being sold off, our lives have become worse, and so this is the only just action the banks can take.  They cannot pre judge people’s work patterns as the grief that they have caused us is why they are how they are.  Anyway, as far as the banks of the current tenants are concerned, mortgage repayment requirements will be cheaper than rent, which the tenants have been able to pay, so there is no justification in saying that they can’t or won’t be able to pay, clearly they can.

No age limits either, as we really cannot presume a person will live for x number of years, you never know, and anyway with property equity release this is illogical and therefore imparitive, not fair, so to be fair it is imperative all are included in this freedom and release from bondage.

Young people may find a big house seriously scarey, and anyway they haven’t got enough stuff to fill it anyway, so I propose 2 forms for them, and others who prefer this as an option (not a coerced preference, a real one)

A Micro Mortgage – is all in one room.  The kitchen will be like IKEA used to sell and is also available elsewhere, with a unit with a fridge, a sink, 2 hobs and a bit of a cupboard underneath, you could add a combi oven and you are done.  The bathroom would be a shower, toilet and basin unit like you see in Unis across the land.  The bed sitting room would be a bunk with a sofa underneath of a bed with cushions to make it into a sofa in the day.  Storage units for what little you’ve got too.  Aldi did an offer last year on mini freezers and dishwashers which you could add as you wish.

A Macro Mortgage – this is like the above but more spread out into 2 rooms, with an en suite bathroom area in the bedroom and a kitchen cum sitting room arrangement in the other.  This is when you are ready to spread out a bit, say as you are getting older and have got more stuff.

The Micro Mortgage will be what you can get if you are under 21, The Macro under 25.

And a 3rd, where the property is in the majority needing work done on it. Is:

A Minor Mortgage is similar to the Micro Mortgage in that one room in a house that needs a lot of work doing on it is fine and liveable in.  You then, as money and time allows do up the house and gradually spread out into it.  You will need to be 25 or show in an application relevant skills, so as not to exclude under 25s who are working in the construction trade, but no applications for all others.  This is to alleviate the annoyance felt by the young who could afford these properties but the banks will not lend them the money to provide the opportunity to them.  The government will lend them the funds to create one good room and ensure the banks back them up for the rest.  They have the energy and enthusiasm for this work.

Pictures of what I was referring to:                                                                                                                                                                                    https://www.treehugger.com/kitchen-design/kitchoo-mini-kitchen-unit.html

Personal Story.

The landlady of the next door property delivered this note through my door:

It looks scruffy and unprofessional but she, an ex-teacher, owns a property empire, so looks can be deceiving.  I googled for more information about her, the teacher references I could not find, but the property ones I did.

This is the evidence of her property empire which I googled for:

I then received a card via the post:

I thought when I first looked at it that it was a sympathy card from someone as I had just lost my dog, she had recently died.  The bully thought I can go in at her while she is her most vulnerable, exploit that vulnerability, attack her as prey.  I was livid and heartbroken, how cruel and evil of her:

In it she said she would cut my tree:

I went out in the garden to see what she was on about, it has been hard to go outside as this was my dog’s space.  I took some photos and found from the fence that had been firm and joined to the post before that she had trespassed in my property.   The offending twig had a bird feeder on, so I reckon the tenants liked it that way, I also have bird feeders in my garden.  They have another filled with peanuts in their garden, they too like feeding the birds.  I have no problems or  issues with my neighbours and they have not said me to me that they have any with me.

I looked at her address online and found there to be an enormous tree growing in her garden but with 50% of it actually shading her neighbour’s garden:

It’s the one with the red door and garage.  Look at it from all angles and in google maps too to see what I am saying.

Have you heard of the parable about the plank and the splinter in the eye?  This reminds me of that.

I will post the images here on to the unin.us facebook page so you can see them clearly and download them easily too to enlarge them for detail that I found easier to see that way e.g. the bird feeders.

Welcome to: United in US!

unin.us is a positive blog.  I am using it to tell the world about happy ideas that I have to make it better, from the little local level, through to nationally useful ideas to international concepts.  There is a facebook forum for this, the rules are to be nice, it is uplifting.  If you like more robust, no holds barred debate unin.info is for you where I will be dealing with the serious issues head on.

https://www.facebook.com/unin.us/

This nice site has been hacked in a nasty way twice over the summer.  I do wish to deal with heavy issues but not here. Yes, there is light and shade in life.  This site is for the light.  The unin.info page also has a facebook page, feel free to try to get through to me and the rest of the world with your difficult issues there.  Do not delete positive posts here – that immediately makes me not for your cause, do I make myself completely clear, here?

The WORTHING of WILDLIFE

Related image

We see the earnest desperate emotional programmes stirringly stating that we must do all we can to preserve these creatures or this habitat, preceded by brilliantly beautiful footage covering their life and lifestyles at all angles – we are thrilled to bits at the stunning sights.

However I have contacted David Attenborough several times to say I have an idea to save species from extinction, although I have been bothered over the years to view and learn from his multiple programmes, and listen to loads of end of programme moans about the plight of everything, neither he, nor his staff, can be bothered to read nor respond to this short piece, perhaps they have more interests in persistent pains of flora and fauna world wide, personally I think that’s a bit sick.

Also and on the other hand to the thrills of paragraph one, we view with disgust the trophy hunters, their bounty of booty in the currency of the kill.  They are sickly notching up scores based on the rarity of the animal, a bit like feathers in the bonnets of ladies at the turn of the century, no, not the millennium – way, way back further than that to the one before, where they showed off harder to find rarer ones, killing off the beauties in the real world – glorying in death – two World Wars were to follow, they were not so thrilled when their own died off.  Trophy Hunters equally do not care, but they are far, far less ignorant of what they are doing or how they are playing the part of causing extinctions, so much sicker when you think of the extreme over-population of homo sapiens, or so-called sapiens, because that clearly is not wise, and is so selfish.  They post selfies online – seriously selfish selfies, with the poor dead animal in front of them with them grinning like someone deranged with devilish delirium right by, this is not right, there is no contest when all they used was the stick of a gun, and that, quite frankly sticks in my throat.

Image result for Image result for wildlife biodiversity

One thing that really gets to me, a niggle, is that the over-emotional you’ve got to save this, that and the other is that this is coming from presenters and other people who are very rich.  You also have patronising youth who go on gap years – in between school and university – to do ‘charitable’ work to ‘look after’ the wildlife, and say and think “Why don’t these people look after these wonderful creatures? Don’t they value them?” in a tone of dismissive voice in that the volunteer doesn’t really value ‘these people’ she / he thinks that they are the scum of the earth, although they will come up with over the top laudating praise for them and about how they endure and that we can learn a lot from them and their simple life, you know OMG – Oh My God – I learnt so much more from them than they learnt from us! Et cetera…  Those that do this ‘work’ do it because they can afford it, they can afford the time off, they have had the huge privilege of an extended education which will continue to continue on and on and they know that in the back of their minds.  In many ways this work is fun, it is one long holiday for them.

Another irony is that while these superior sorts are instructing the locals elsewhere to keep their big beasts the history of total extinction of all our comparable animals which used to roam freely across our lands is rather conveniently forgotten – it is an edited history – there is even a nimbyism about dogs here (we would not have survived the Palaeolithic period without them) – a zero tolerance to animals in any way disrupting our lives – pest control brought in rather than sharing our lives with other creatures whose homes used to be where our homes now are situated, we are like a pile of immovable poo on their lives.

For the poor people it is another matter.  They have to make a living just to survive somehow or other.  And as I’ve just inferred, they have done very well for all of us and the diversity of creation for our children’s future, just by keeping these animals alive.  Surely that is worth something?  They put up with their crops being eaten up, their homesteads being damaged.  And for this they derive no livelihood.  That is not really fair is it? Not at all, not Fair Trade, a bit of a dud deal, especially when we go into mega-lecture mode and burn all their ivory with no compensation for it – what is the point of that – does it do any good – no, not really, I have seen 2 different bonfires of this in my lifetime at least, so the elephants died for nothing.  They may as well have sold it and improved things from then on.  Yes, you have a case to stop the trade – you could have just given it away for free to crash the market to devalue it, making the commodity rarer is illogical, as there is more incentive to kill to make more money.  It’s a very negative alchemy.

The Most Delicious Animals Are The Most Popularous. Wait...

This could all be turned around.  And not just for big beasts of the land, for All Wildlife to Have a Worth in Money for its Existence.

So if your people have a herd of elephants, or even more rare a family of giraffes, roaming around your area their number and characteristics i.e. age and gender would be noted and given a value taking into consideration the species type, its rarity, the level of disruption both social and economic this animal’s presence causes to humans – so if we are talking lions and tigers, wolves and bears security and safety are costs that need to be borne. So a basic equation is Age + Gender x Rarity + Security (the generic term I’d use for all disruptor factors) = the Amount Paid out for that Animal per Annum.  Other factors can be added in. So you’ll be in the money as a community, as your commodity increases in value by increasing in number.  We will encourage this, for example in sea creatures, so to not kill whales would mean a whale of a time financially, it really would pay off to save the whales, like saving money in a bank account, that accrues interest.  This money would be paid through a central international fund, paid via individual countries obligations which could be from Wildlife Charities there, an obvious example is the World Wide Fund for Nature & Wildlife, the WWF – not the Worldwide Wrestling Foundation which had to alter its name as it was too WWF – but the fights and battles are not dissimilar!  We have to wrestle with this for the diversity of wild life for our children’s beautiful future. Image result for WWF buckets birds Image result for WWF wrestlingImage result for WWF buckets

There will be fights, and there will be the need to kill cullers of rare species, humans are far from rare, in fact their overpopulation and proliferation to denudation of the planet is causing this problem so to make one (sub) human extinct will not exactly make us all die out, but to not kill a killer of these rarer creatures will make them all die out.  Fighter Army Wildlife Rangers will be where a good proportion of where the money goes for each animal, probably about 50% this could go to locals to be employed just to keep these rarities alive, the other 50% is compensation for the local area given to the locals, so when their homesteads are ruined they can repair them and acquire secure storage for valuables, and when their crops are raided it does not bother them, as they have the funds to feed themselves with at the shops from food grown elsewhere.

These funds need not be solely restricted to animals, plants could also gain protection this way.  For example Rain Forest Trees – the rarer the more money each individual tree gains for the landowner just by being there alive – they can choose to get one lump sum by cutting it down and lose long term, as they gain interest over time, and more as it ages and grows, money rings a bell in their head that it is worth more that way.  And they still retain their investment, a genuine Money Tree!

If someone has a huge tree in their neighbourhood, particularly if it is blocking some of their light – they could be paid for this.  Trees and bushes and fields and other aspects could be given a financial gain just for their very presence, so a Council or community would be incentivised to keep that Green area by money, and could equally or more than equally to act as a disincentive to development be fined heavily if it is ruined or lost.  The same should apply to hedgehog conservation for example in Europe, where if you are created a habitat and access to your garden by not erecting a fence you could get a council tax reduction, whereas if you lay paving or decking or stones, so no water can flow or nothing can grow or live there you will be billed.  So a carrot and stick approach here.

Marx summed it up beautifully in stating in his works that it all comes down to money.  You pay your money you make your choice.

I too need to be paid for this work, it took time to think it through, and time is money, and I have bills to pay too, I am not rich, I am not yet free from my chains.

Do you go online and wish that those annoying pop-up ads would pop off?  Do you wish that your site did not have to rely on advertising just for you to survive?  Do you find it depressing that others use the information on your page but yet never click the Donate button?  Do you run a blog and put a lot into it only to find the costs run amok and funds run away so you wonder how long it can realistically stay online?

Are you quite prepared to pay for the kit to access the information that – ironically – you are not prepared to pay for – you expect to continue to get this for free? Are you profiting from technology sales but are not supporting those that are the incentive for these sales, the desired information that draws your customers in? Are you finding that increased traffic to your site with spiraling costs related to that only to find you pay for your popularity and someone else gains financially for it?  Are you a paid paper publication finding the transition to an online presence simply does not pay – so see quality give way to trash as investment in researched information becomes an elite preserve?

Dear Tim Berners-Lee,

I’ve been an ideas person for a while now. On my website @ orionparty.org you can see an idea I had for Web TV, which was initially used by Microsoft using the same font and colours as the original presentational format. I’ve had other inventions e.g. my transport system idea on site, where cars are driven by computers. I went to a few of Inventors Fairs in the 1990s where I met Trevor Baylis and was invited back to his house. We went round discerning whether so called innovations were really new, plausible (perpetual motion machines) or were they fantastic or really good. I’d love to work with the Consortium on these ideas following in this e-mail as it would be really lovely to be paid for my work so I could afford to work on other ideas for other people and causes of urgent concern. I do have a, what I perceive as simple, solution to the Earth Challenge as proposed by Al Gore and Richard Branson but I am afraid to release it freely, from previous experience, and from the feeling I’d really like people to know it was me who saved them. Pop Stars are famous, Innovation and Information Providers should be too and Prosper as they do. I am not alone in these feelings or a sense that the Fair Trade principle really must apply on-line if we are ever to keep our forests and all the little creatures that live there too.

Yours sincerely,

Clare Elizabeth Angela Kingston

We have recently seen a huge concert in Aid of the Earth, to save its vital expendable resources. Trees are a very important part of that, and information provided on them is probably currently the most prolific medium for such information communication. The reason that this is the case is very basic. Words read on trees rather than flowing through electricity attract a royalty or an advance. Reading editions of Private Eye recently it can be seen that advances for well known faces are seriously disproportionate to their resulting sales, and yet promising possibilities are often overlooked. J.K. Rowling had many rejections for her first book, and the first print run was only 500 books, the majority of these going to public libraries, where if they are logged correctly attract a small payment, relatively minoral in comparison to the book production cost and sale price. There is, also, I believe an upper limit that can be received per book, I found the last time I checked.

When you buy newspapers or magazines you often only purchase them for one article, a specific picture you fancy or the freebee CD on the cover. You chuck the rest away and feel 2 things : That it was a swizz that you had to pay for all that stuff you did not read or need and conversely ironically : that you wouldn’t have minded paying more for less, for just what you wanted, plus perhaps more pictures you liked or another CD compatible to your taste and mood right now. Something lighter yet brighter, more compact, solid and substantial. The trouble is most periodicals do not make their money from articles, but it is that the articles attract you to the advertising, which in reality funds the paper. Advertising can be really good and excellently creative, but it can also be an irritant, particularly on-line, when it demands to dominate the screen.

Editorial control is also important, artist freedom and immediacy – getting the stuff out with a reasonable timeframe between creation and production, and being able to freely flow your career to suit all sorts of things.

Space and capacity in breadth and depth is another. Storing all your music files, alongside all the films you had viewed, and the books you had read, somewhere where you could easily find them, and to be able to share without loss your stimuli with friends, would be beautiful and give you more room to breathe at home, a de-cluttering similar to the simplification of the 1920s. It is also possible to share your own work with others and perhaps grow in reputation. Barcodes and other security data i.e. on what is on which page and other drop down or short answer options for older books or music material. The focus for royalties would be on alive authors, the dead ones providing funding to supply computers and information credits to the less wealthy and currently unconnected. A surrender of your book would be required to obtain free access to it on-line perpetually, it could be sent anywhere or recycled. An arrangement for retainance could be come to for ancient and valuable books to preserve their physicality for posterity.

There is an all pervading attitude of freeloading in society, it is almost aristocratically expected by many that you should provide ideas and information for free. Those that sell the access to that information or the equipment to enable that information to be seen, profit from it. If that information were not there then there would be no point in purchasing such artefacts or access. And yet web site providers from internet encyclopedii down are constantly in the charity mode of asking support for their sites from viewers, the more visitors the greater the costs incurred, and some sites (which may be well utilized) fold or close up completely. This isn’t very logical. Also quality or sense can be compromised. More serious videos may be made for sites that operate a see what you like television medium, and greater fairness to the media provider, those with a great hit rate attract no reward, neither does the operation, which does not allow those with talent to further invest time in their art. Also it would be good for current professional television program providers to attain their funding more freely from those that benefit from their work more directly, giving them content control, and giving licence payers fairness as shareholders, in that information provided on-line is not subject to the same regulatory tyranny imposed on those too poor to buy a computer. There is probably more information on the website than that which is broadcast. Those that need to feed in ad breaks to fund their provision would well find it better, less complicated, more secure and therefore feel able to up their quality in their output. And due to the longer term nature of royalties they could invest in riskier subject material. Sense and reason are lacking in the sense that people are prepared to pay real money for virtual property or no real world gain, and yet a knowledge boost to your real life they would expect for nothing. University professors do not rate the internet because of quite rational reasons. They feel their livelihoods are on the line because of it, which if income was derivory would exorcise that problem. They get paid in their training students and providing publications under their university banner. A presentation payment would encourage very much more interesting output on-line, and also be what you meant the web to be at its birth. I do think it would be reasonable, as an innovator myself, for you to obtain a nominal fee for each access, so you could use these funds to give computers to the poor, if you wished to, in your own name, you deserve this credit, even if the patent law may state it was in the course of your work, what you have done is extraordinary to that. I would love to view journal standard material, from time to time, without having to sign up to extensive expensive annual rates. Many universities struggle with multi journal provision, and have to make tough choices. The student viewer could have a credit account, added to long term loaning to see this stuff. They do after all pay exorbitantly for huge textbooks where many pages are never read, up front, and these are hard to carry, or store in small living quarters. Also if you see a good journal article whilst at University and want access to its good quality information after you have left after completion of your studies this isn’t an easy feat, and you start to feel starved of good quality info-food. Here I propose a satisfactory solution to this and those problems I have posed. And for others I have left out in this edition :

I start by detailing

Royalty Rates

Code Thoughts

Ratioing

I then go on to explain how this could work in operational terms.

Nominal = N

Reasonable = R

Substantial = S

Expensive = E

<A HREF= “payto: [INTERNATIONAL BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER] ></A>

Ratios in payto

payto:____:

^

Ratio number

Null Value (0) and no other payto entries = 100%

e.g. “payto:0:IBAN”

This means one individual gets all the money donated, it is not divided in any way.

More than one entry: e.g.

“payto:25:IBAN:30:IBAN:10:IBAN:5:IBAN:5:IBAN:5:IBAN”

Each page requires its own separate payto reference and its individual ratioing.

Default Value for every web page is N100.

There are these values available for each category:

N : 1-100

R : 1-1000

S : 1-10000000

E : 1-1000000000

The reason you need more values for higher amounts for ratioing is that these will invariably have the greater possibility to have been created by more individuals- this enables all these individuals to be fairly paid by getting a slice of the cake that equates to a worthwhile sum.  Note this is the range of possibility 1 to 1000 for Reasonable for example so if 3 individuals contributed, 1 twice as much as the others this is 3 in total with a ratio 2:1:1 you would calculate 1000/4=250 so “payto:500:IBAN:250:IBAN:250:IBAN”

The statement of rates gives the consumer of the information how much this visit is going to cost – noted on the web address bar that shows as you know [as /N15, /R20, /S6, /E3] at the end of this so you can decide whether to click in or not and this information available prior to seeing the site page.  Different pages can attract different payment requirements.

Nominal could = 100 being 1 cent so you could pay at N1 a 100th of 1 cent – useful for paying just to keep the information up there but no more

Reasonable = 10 cents – which is a more reasonable rate for information, so the information provider is likely to make a reasonable sum for their work without deterring visitors, particularly when new.

Substantial = 1 dollar for the information – could be a whole book, which you put a lot of work into and we all are entitled to make a living from our work.

Expensive being 10 dollars it all adds up for an exclusive, say a film release on it’s Premier first day to view.

Each web page will open up and the Value will display as a stamp on an envelope of a letter, in the traditional place, top right hand corner, so as not to annoy the web page design layout, but will be the first information available to see.

e.g.s N30, R77, S2, E3.

so N = 30% of a cent R = 770 cents S = 2 dollars E = 30 dollars

RATE=“N30” , RATE=“R77” , RATE=“S2” , RATE=“E3”

This will be the amount that is transferred into your payto account / accounts. It will be possible to view the Currency Amounts these Values correspond to on-line, and have automatic updates e-mailed to you.

The funds will be phished (fishing data) from the internet access data you hold on each Individual Computer or Internet Accessing Device, so as you view you are responsible to pay. If you don’t have the funds you won’t be able to view the site. Phishing will be done via an internet accessing window that you will, from the point that the W3 Consortium decides it, need to have downloaded to your Control Panel, and also filled in there. As the Internet viewing program opens up, it will also locate and acknowledge this data file Icon and all its contents, and ask you your User Name where you will give your password and the Account Number you wish to use for this time of accessing (scroll down). The User Name will be computer specific, so a more understood range of options are keyable. There is the possibility of a visitor semi-option, where the visitor pays a proportion of site visit costs. The main user will need to open an account first which will cover the parameters stated on the visitor log-on. These may be that the main user pays only a nominal amount each time. More information will be required of the Visitor, whose details will be stored on the Main User’s computer. The Visitor will not be able to erase the details, but once the visitor logs off, their password will delete, rendering further usage of the details impossible, and all the other details will be sent to a security mainframe linked to both the Main User’s file and Sub-Linked to similar sounding and similar account number holding Files in this Mainframe.

This Window and the Internet Accessing Window will need to be opened up prior to the connection being “dialled-up”. In Broadband scenarios you would only be able to view received or downloaded file data / files when logged on. Downloading can occur e.g. in a large file format, whilst your account details are not in view, but to see it you would confirm the same details as you gave to get it sent. So in a shared computer experience a downloaded for e.g. MP3 file would only be viewable or audible by the original purchaser of the information, this would be encoded into the download. The exception would be accepted gift download source types for e.g. Internet Telephony or Video Calls, as this is a free give and receive format, and both parties are donating equal server service time and bandwidth, there is no external effected user cost. However these will be data-viewed via a Remote Non-Human audible Robot for data patterns that do not conform to standard tracking patterns i.e. if they are in reality uploading data to contacts. This data will then be watched, and, if successful, charged 50:50 to both parties. Gift transfers will be kept for checking for a pre-decided period of time, this will be diversely discernable based on the wide variety of factors and file formats that can occur.

With this system it has the advantage that you will only need one username and password to key in prior to connecting, you will not need to be a member to attain information, or therefore to retain multiple pass name information. This also allows maximum technical efficiency of the internet world wide as the band width will not be road hogged by broad band users who have calling packages which currently make it free to put a site on-hold for others by providing an unnecessary bulk of current users. A Nominal payment will make the Web more of a free flowing spider, untrapped. A speedy seeker and finder, hunting and delivering information fast.

Web T.V. :

“Now that anyone can access the web though a television, even the most computer-phobic want to know what’s out there. Fox provides an irreverent tour of cyberspace, well suited to those more comfortable with a remote control than a keyboard. His wise guidance begins at the proper place–a brief discussion of what the web is and how it relates to surfing via television. He offers assistance on buying and hooking up the WebTV box. Only then does he ease the reader into how to start having some fun online. He takes his time, explaining the controls in a simple, friendly manner and gradually guiding the reader on the connections available from the home page. Before long, he has painlessly opened up the world of e-mail and has the reader on a tour of some of the most enjoyable sites in cyberspace. A huge chunk of the book focuses on specific places to go and things to do, including entertainment sites, business areas, educational opportunities and almost everything that computerized web-surfing families have enjoyed for so long. You can’t ask for a more painless introduction to life online.”

This is more like what I had in mind of what Web T.V. should be like in the future in 1997 – this is today’s screen print of a web t.v. provider in 2013.

Obviously using your t.v. for surfing is excellent and I have imagined since I was a child a wall in your home where you could make video calls, communicate in typing and watch more than one channel at a time, in the 90s I wanted to be able to watch all the t.v. channels from all over the world at the time I decided.

The government’s plans to tax online TV viewers with a “Universal Household Charge” is not supported by Irish TV viewers, according to a survey by broadband provider Magnet Networks.

The survey found that some 60% of the Irish population did not support the introduction of the charge which has been proposed as a means of combating the falling number of broadcast TV viewers.

Speaking in early April The Minister for Communications, Pat Rabbitte, announced that “[the] notion of some kind of universal household charge might well be worth considering” as a replacement for the current TV licence. http://sociable.co/technology/more-people-watching-tv-online-but-little-support-for-universal-household-charge/  May 8, 2011 – 12:08 am GMT

My version of Web T.V. online in 1997:  http://www.orionparty.org/webtv.htm the colour scheme is there (at some point later I co-ordinated the site to give headings the same colour scheme but the rest is as it was at the start)  The font is Times New Roman Bold

Entry Gate

This includes a serious case to make the licence fee history. To encourage people into the new technology , via a national computer renting scheme which is very detailed so people get exactly what they want e.g. Education Software , NetPhone , Games Equipment etc. The hardware and software for the individual user will be specifically configured to their exact wants and needs. The standard average payment for this will be about £10 a month. Land T.V. would be free. BBC 1 would be where BBC 1 & BBC 2 programmes would go, sponsored by company sponsored slots or the lottery and therefore would contain no advertisements. BBC 2 will be used to show internet pages for free and also to educate people into the new technology.

WEB T.V. would be paid via 2 methods. Access i.e. you dial up the programme number and you pay a certain amount. Also information could be paid for via integrated royalty software. So the longer you view , The more you pay. Each individual programme could have its own royalty rate, films etc. would cost more , ancient repeats hardly anything at all. You would know before viewing the programme / information how much it will cost you.

Music , Poetry , Visual Art , Museum Tours , Tutorial Assistance , Radio Broadcasts and Concerts , Plays etc. are just a small number of examples of beneficiaries to WEB T.V. It is a much fairer and better way to support a wider spectrum of media. And moreover the media can control itself , without interference of producers who think they know best, although with current evidence one is not so sure. And the viewer can watch a programme when it suits them and not miss any due to daft competition by current broadcasters where they put programmes of a similar nature at the same time as each other. So it is better value for money overall. You get a life. You can control what you see on T.V. rather than the T.V. controlling your life.

Examples of Web T.V. using current technology :

I feel with a national renting scheme technology will move forward fast. e.g. The view screen area will more swiftly cover a wall, making it more possible to read broadsheet newspapers this way, at a font size large enough to be comfortable. And using headphone technology all members of a family can watch many programmes all on one screen together happily.

Free Food and Stuff Boxes

I love my dog, Trixie, she has taught me a lot about food waste, seriously, she was a street dog once and was rescued and now she lives with me and has provided me with valuable lessons, and is a great compass, particularly when we’re or more accurately I’m lost in woods.  She has steered me too to see the human folly of throwing away perfectly good food to eat.  This all started on Saturday and Sunday morning walks – very early by the way, the early bird catches the worm and the early dog catches the chicken and chips! – when before Church I thought a nice placid stroll would put me in a prayerful frame of mind before Mass; Trixie, however, had other ideas, she was not going to miss a trick, an opportunity not to be missed, we were guided by her to the takeaway venues and just outside the streets were paved with chicken and chips, which she lapped up and I bagged up – to make it quicker, a more efficient speedier walk – the bags I took along with us started small – the little poop bags – then I got it down to a fine art, with at least a couple in one bag to carry (didn’t want to tempt fate that there might be nothing there and look a little bit silly)  After quite a number of weeks I occasionally found stuff that I could actually eat and share with Trixie, and then I started to do as Trixie did and looked in bins too, as it appeared to be a fruitful activity.  It still is, although one fantastic source of food has dried up, the supply has completely frozen off, that of the Biffa bin just outside Iceland in the centre of town.

I was just enjoying freeganning – freeganning is where you look into supermarket skips and get free food, food that has been thrown away, about to be disposed of and completely wasted – taking home loads of lovely food and sharing it too, more than once with our local Food Bank collection at church.  There was really such a thing as a Free lunch! – and a free supper and breakfast too!  It was great.  I felt a sense of economic security too, I could live off very little – The Good Lord provided as they say and he did!

This gradually came to an end when so-called do-gooders campaigned to give all unsold food to charities – but with caveats, the small print I read said it had to be fit for human consumption – I had seen big purple bags of bread in Tesco with unfit for human consumption all over them, about 5 of them full of their in store bakery bread – so I knew what that meant in reality, also that legally they can’t sell food past it’s sell by date, and from personal experience in Sainsbury’s when I saw some lovely fish that was past it’s sell by date, when I said could you just give it to me, they said no they could not – so I know that this giving it to charity is just a social media public relations exercise in reality – thinking Tesco on facebook, I was cynical at the time as they were reducing the number of Everyday Value items, including Cocoa powder I used for baking that was higher in protein and lower in fat than the regular cocoa which was double the price of the economy brand [this was to subsidize home deliveries, which do not pay for themselves, they are a cost to the companies and lose the buzz of a store full of people who also make impulse buys, another loss] The poor subsidize the rich here, and it looks like from the video stills they have joined the Biffa scheme.

Another aspect was that my main focus for freeganning, Iceland in town, was also beneficial to the local homeless, and one man came from London posing as that, so he could sell drugs and get a gang into my home town of Swindon (one benefit of my walking there, with my dog, was that I got to know this, I informed the Police, and the gang could not establish itself) The trouble was this particular man left lots of mess, as opposed to the genuinely homeless guys, so Iceland were asked by the Police to dispose of their waste differently, one skip bin went (probably for an indoor location) and the other now has a padlock on it.  The messed up drug man has since died, to my relief as I was fearful.  I sadly know that now it will all be disposed of, not eaten by anyone, what a waste.  My dog also benefitted well with food that I could not safely eat.

I do have an idea of what to do about this – I do know about recycling, years ago, in 1997, though I had had the idea a lot earlier, I suggested on my political website, www.orionparty.org that admittedly does have some silly stuff on it – but then again do you know a single entirely sensible politician!? – Rainbow Recycling.  This is now how it is done, and although I never got paid for the idea, it has saved local Councils and Businesses loads of money, it just shows that ideas do have a financial worth and that those who cannot get by from them will have their talents and skills wasted as this isn’t a worthwhile job without pay.

What I’d do is have Bright Yellow Boxes with sticker notices on them so people are aware they are free to take stuff but that it is entirely their decision, no receipt, no guarantee, no comeback – that’s what the clear messages are all about.  These could vary in size from and to:

Standard Recycling Boxes

Half-Height – for those wishing to feed wildlife, after all they would be foraging in the fields and forests if we had not built all over them, and to not say to Everywhere to look after their huge wild beasts to their detriment and yet not tolerating even the smallest in your own back yard – an hypocrisy that is not lost on me.

Half-Width – for street side properties so people can pass on the pavement

Table – for stores – they can put “AT OWN RISK” warning triangle stickers all over the stuff they give away, particularly over logos and barcodes.  This design would be like sand and water play tables, sunken boxes in effect, not too deep for display purposes – rules for quantities per person could be itemized.  Appropriate charities could be informed on the internet before items go out – what I mean by appropriate is that charities that serve the poor are appropriate, those with different aims are not, they would be like the rich stealing from the poor, a cynical cheesy “It’s for charity” which grates more than cheese can ever do.

All these examples would be covered by a single hinge clear cover which overlaps the other side – this is so you can simply see what is inside (unlike black wheely bins which I think discourage recycling as you can hide all sins in these) and the loose overlap hinge makes it easy for anyone to open.  In high wind a weight like a brick could be placed on top – these days are rare in the UK.  Having one permanent hinge which cannot come off will keep it there, and can go right over, so you can have both hands free for freeganning, one for lifting the goods, one for holding and keeping open the bag they are to go in.

We all have recycling boxes at home – this could be just another one, you would put food in that you think is not fit to eat (I once keenly spotted something that its best before end date was tomorrow! – people have different sensitivities) and let it stay in there for a week at least, and then when you think it is about to smell or leak put it into your main rubbish knowing that you did at least try your best and there were no takers this time.  Keep persevering as it takes a while for people to find your treasures.  Another approach is to unite with others – particularly useful for those in long and winding streets, with houses wide apart, is to get a larger version if need be, and decide to site your treasure chest at the start of the road, so it is easy for people to reach, and on both sides no-one feels watched or judged – your neighbour might fancy what you put out but doesn’t want you to know that!

The trouble with giving the food to charities is that they serve vulnerable people with less strong constitutions, so some of this might make them ill, but for a people of a more robust age would be perfectly alright with, so you give it to a charity, they say Thank you, and then invisibly throw that food away worried about being sued for food poisoning.

You can put all sorts in these boxes, if you’ve got a fruit tree, as I have or know of one to forage, you can fill your box until it is full with it.  If you’ve got a garden of an allotment and are over-whelmed with produce you can share it out to willing help yourself-ers who will be more than happy for such superb stuff to eat.  (it would be lovely to have an easy way of sharing)  After a party and you’re all stuffed – there you go and another can have one too 🙂

When seeing what people threw away – when recently the recycling and rubbish day was split into 2 days for efficiency – which shows that delays for throwing away can be done – I also saw not only perfectly good food, of nearly can be made good standard, but also perfectly good things that weren’t food too.

I also found perfectly good stuff in charity shop skips – just so you know where to go! – sometimes there are reasons why they don’t sell or they don’t think they’ll sell – sometimes it’s patience and space with all the donations they receive, really it would be better to sell some stuff on ebay, even a local ebay, so there is definitely no postage, they can be picked up.  Or you could put this FREE STUFF in these boxes for other people to pick up for their own personal pleasure or for people who would love to sell them on ebay as a business to generate income from what you regard as rubbish – it is amazing what is on offer online, stuff years ago you thought if you didn’t buy it immediately you’d never get one, ever.  And the smallest most seemingly insignificant items are the ones you seek for like a needle in a haystack – and they can now be found, mostly, you could help other people’s quests for what they have been looking for, for ages.  And likewise with the food, though leaving things a little longer as these don’t go off, give it a bit of time for people to pick things up and then when you have, feel perfectly justified to bung them in the bin.

There have been programs which are really brilliant about food waste, which they have found success in preventing it, particularly farmed food that didn’t meet certain cosmetic standards.

Jamie Oliver: “In our new Channel 4 series, Jimmy and I are hitting the road to fight against one of the biggest food crimes of our time – food waste.  When half a million people in the UK are relying on food banks, this waste isn’t just bonkers, it’s bordering on criminal.”

I am aware, via e-mails of gleaning activities, to harvest crops that were no longer wanted to sell, to be given to the needy – the ones I have heard about are a bit far from my home, but they do make me think.  There needs to be a system where those with lorries come and gather them and put the produce in store Tables or Pools – which would be the same without legs, so offloading is easier – so it can all be eaten before it goes off.  They could drop it off at a number of fairly near locations to the farm and others could pick up large amounts to deposit further afield – so the bounty is spread out far and wide without exorbitant shipping costs to the producer (any costs they do incur getting the lorry should make them exempt from tax for these plus a bonus for distribution costs)  It is bad not eating food generated as if that food had not be grown there other animals could have had that land to live on and live off, which is criminal, a theft from them.  It would be perfectly reasonable to give tax incentives and gifts to all professional organisations participating in this, as the real reason they throw things out rather than giving them away is the loss to the profit margin, their survival – so to stop this battle we should give in by giving them what it’s worth to them, so it is a win win all round.

It’s also a foodbank everywhere – no pleading – no form filling – no ritual humiliation – it is meant to be a Free country so they say – so why not actually be one!

Feed the Birds – but at less than tuppence a bag!  (Mary Poppins movie reference)

You can see from the video stills of this programme Rip-Off Britain – Food… (before this clip they show one of a woman with tinned food and spices in her cupboard that are many years old, that have been tested and deemed fit to eat) First shown: 11:45am 27 Nov 2015 that Biffa the waste firm are using food waste to generate energy – Biffa is the firm Iceland use – I used to get bananas from their skips, they were lovely.  People eat bananas at different stages, some like them nearly green and others yellow, and still more black is deemed ripe.  You are probably aware of the calorific values of food, and that lettuce and cucumber have particularly low calorific or energy value, other vegetables are also very low rated, so this is a most wasteful, energy inefficient electricity generation – it’s just a way of denying good food at low prices or free to the poor, cruel and criminal.  It is not worthwhile to do this, there are far, far better ways, I’d go so far as to say it is a dodgy geezer activity.

Look at the video stills: observe the sheer quantity of plastic, an oil – that probably generates a lot of the electricity alongside the packaging, the dry elements – as the energy value of most foods is low – is what is generating the food waste energy, and to cycle it round to farming fertiliser is pointless, energy cycle wise, if the food generated there is never going to be transferred into food energy because it will never be eaten, what a waste of a potential home for an animal, a habitat for a plant, and the price the consumer has to pay in the shops as it’s ‘illegal to sell the food’ line is (look at the example with the meat – butchers sell meat not in integral plastic packaging – it is invariably open to the air) in reality a professionally lobbied position to parliament (or complete and utter rubbish) to ensure high prices are maintained and we are effectively enslaved to that.

Then there are in every store all across the land now, the very high and impenetrable locked up gates hiding all their sins away.

I asked in Aldi for food that was about to be thrown away, they did not know what to do – I explained about food waste, they reduced the items but not by a lot, not an amount I felt fair when they were going to get nothing for them if I’d not asked.  To be fair to those I’ve mentioned, this is a universal issue with all retailers – I need examples of empirical evidence to explain the problem that my solution will solve in a positive way that will be popular.

I saw some perfectly good bread in a Waitrose bin in one town when visiting family, but the Waitrose where I live is a new one so has a gated area for trash. (they do reduce good quality items well overall, provided you get there at the right time – I’ve made lovely lime curd and orange marmalade from their reduced fruit)  The new Morrisons also reduces very well, again if you get there at the right time, but their gates are bigger and completely impenetrable.

If they didn’t have anything to hide, why would they do that?  It’s not Health & Safety, whatever they say, it’s Security of Wealth for the CEO etc. not in the Interests of the Customers.  The company consumes the so-called rubbish and perhaps they think if they’re profiting they need to spin this stuff to make themselves look good, at least superficially.  To make it hard for us to argue, fight back and face them up with the truth.  That this would rub it in and rub us up the wrong way when we knew, we would know the rubbish they spouted.  We would demand a fair share.   And anyway, whatever happened to the notion and the reality of living in a Free Country?  Wake Up People! Make it happen.

Tricks of the Restaurant Trade

Series 2 Episode 4

Restaurant food

In the UK every year 200,000 tonnes of Restaurant food waste is thrown away in restaurants, and every bit of food thrown out adds to your bill because food waste costs the restaurant industry a whopping £682 million a year.  One brand ahead of the game on waste is the Mexican chain Wahaca, with 24 branches around the country it is one of the few chains with a zero landfill policy.  At the beginning we really looked at what customers are really leaving on their plates.  Eg salsa 20% was actually used so we had this huge waste of salsa so we started to put salsa bottles out, so people could use them. (so no waste as customers used what they had)

Food waste in restaurants broadly falls in 3 categories:

Firstly you’ve got the waste from food preparation, so stuff like these avocado skins the inedible bits of raw ingredients that have to be binned, that counts for 45%

Then you’ve got spoilage, so for example things like food that’s gone out of date, that accounts for 21%

Then finally, you’ve got the waste from customers plates, and this accounts for 34%

To cut the waste being left behind on plates Wahaca train their waiters to be upfront with their customers with how many portions are enough … and should customers still not finish their meal they are encouraged to take it home.

We’ll box it into these boxes, put it in a bag and then we give them a little note which has some suggestions what they could do with it.

We’re just trialling it out and it’s something that can be a lot of fun for customers.

We contacted 20 high street chains to ask them about their waste policies, 9 told us that they were working on initiatives to reduce waste.

McDonalds measure all food waste and along with TGI Fridays have a zero landfill policy, whilst Chiquito, Coast to Coast, Frankie & Bennies and Garfunkel’s use their waste to deliver power to the National Grid, and Nando’s give over 200,000 meals to charity through their no chucking our chickens scheme.  11 major chains out of the 20 we contacted didn’t respond despite numerous prompts from us:  Strada, Zizzi Ristaurante, Pizza Express, Eat, Burger King, Prezzo, Café Rouge, Cote Brasserie, Greene King, Burger & Lobster, Toby Carvery.

Of course we don’t have to leave behind our food in restaurants, we can always take it home with us.  But how amenable are high street restaurants when it comes to leaving with our leftovers?  Adam Pearson is finding out.  When they told me to investigate doggy bags they may have got the wrong end of the stick:

To find the other kind of doggy bag I’m visiting a numerous chains for lunch, but will they also offer automatically or will I have to ask?  At Garfunkels, Zizzi and Wagamama he asks if that can be put into a doggy bag to take away, he had to ask every time, though they did say yes and he went away with 3 sizable bags from these locations.  At Yuatacha, a posh place:

Unbelievable, the most expensive one of the lot and they wouldn’t even let me take home my leftovers. We asked Yuatcha if it would reconsider its doggy bag policy and they declined,

telling us there may be:  “some potential risk” In allowing diners to:  “take dishes home to re-heat & consume later”

They added that they’re there:  “waiters are trained” to advise against:  “ordering too much”

Oh well 3 out of 4 ain’t bad, I’ve got myself a feast!  To his dog “Come on baby!  Let’s go!”  Tricks of the Restaurant Trade   Series 2 Episode 4

? How much is Sainsbury’s Head of Sustainability being paid – and if they got rid of him could that offset the costs to Sainsbury’s from giving food away for free?  That would be extremely sustainable, wouldn’t it, saves wasting wonderful food!

? If Tesco’s can give away free fruit for kids to stop them moaning for unhealthy treats that’ll make them sick why won’t they give away free food – at adult’s own discretion! – that is perfectly fit to eat but their bureaucracy says no to?
